Brainerd Lakes Area Will Be 100% Ice Out By This Weekend

As of Wednesday morning, it appears the Brainerd Lakes Area will be 100% ice out by this weekend. Most of the smaller lakes do not have any ice and many of them are starting to produce bluegills and crappies.

Crappies are being found in 4-10 feet of water and can be taken by minnows or plastics suspended about half way down the water column below a bobber or by casting plastics and swimming it back. The bigger bluegills are being caught on crawlers or waxies and are being found anywhere from the shoreline to 8 feet of water depending on the lake.
