Brainerd Fishing Report: Happy MN Fishing Opener!

And we’re off…to a good start for the 2022 MN Fishing Opener and open water fishing season! Walleyes have been responding to several tactics in the Brainerd Lakes Area and Mille Lacs!
Here are some tactics for this week:
1a. Walleyes at night: Longline troll Smithwick Lures Perfect 10 (10-13ft) or Rattlin’ Floating (4-8ft) Rogues on big shallow sand flats, rock bars or gravel flats.
1b. Walleyes during the day: Cast 1/4oz or 1/8oz jig/fathead minnow or shiner combination on sand flats and developing weeds near big sand flats 4-16ft; and Thill Slip Float/Leech combos have been consistent on rock or hard-bottom/green weed transitions in 11-18ft. Be on the move during the day because the fish are roaming heavily.
2. Panfish: Moving into locations under 10ft in the warmer water; dark bottom bays, cattails, or inlets are my go-to locations. 1/32oz or 1/62oz jig/Sassy Stingum or Hair Jig.
3. Northern Pike: Casting Mepps Aglias, jig/minnows or trolling minnow profile baits are producing around developing weeds and in/around bays in 5-16ft.

We hope you’re enjoying the weather! Hawg Hunterz Guide Service  still has availability to book a fully- guided fishing trip this summer! Good luck, stay safe and Happy Hawg Hunting!
