Join us for the opening reception of our ‘Mitchell Cory Nelson Retrospective’ exhibition, on Friday, January 10, from 5 – 7 pm. Free will offering at the door. Light refreshments will be served. Enjoy mingling with fellow artists and arts enthusiasts.

This retrospective exhibition will feature a selection of artwork by Mitchell Cory Nelson, created over the last 30+ years. Artwork mediums included in the display will be, acrylic paintings, pen and ink drawings, block/screen/acetone prints, as well as some mixed-media sculptures.

Mitchell Cory Nelson began his deep curiosity for art at the age of eight, and it has been his life’s interest ever since. He works in a pop nouveau style, primarily through acrylic painting on canvas, but also works with pen and ink and various printing mediums. To this day he still approaches his work and creative process as a young eight year old. Inspiration and select imagery comes from personal dreams, old school, comic, and popular mechanics books and magazines, along with other various pieces from the 50s and 60s. Creating a piece of artwork with his abundance of imagery is similar to pulling toys out of a toy box, cowboys and Indians rounding up dinosaurs with astronauts in covered wagons, while rocket propelled Volvos fly by. Mitchell believes that it doesn’t matter what belongs and what doesn’t, because this is what makes his artwork interesting, fun, and stand out among everything else that is out there. He hopes that those looking at his artwork will take the time to create their own story and ideas about each piece. His artwork has been shown in many exhibitions, galleries, and art fairs over the years, including at the Plains Art Museum, Fargo,ND and the Minneapolis Institute Of Arts, Minneapolis, MN.

This exhibition will be on display through February 1.

This exhibition is funded, in part, by the voters of Minnesota through grants from Five Wings Arts Council and the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
