Schools out, the rain seems to have subsided , the sun is shining, and the forecast calls for high seventies and mid eighties all week, summer seems to officially be here. I for one am very excited to kick off the summer season. With the weather cooperating there is plenty to do this weekend so do not waste a minute!

For our racing fans the Brainerd area kicks off summer with BMW club racing and Thunder at the Lakes, a full helping of Lucas Oil Nationals style racing at Brainerd International raceway. And of course for our dirt track fans North central speedway will be filling Saturday night with fun and excitement! The Brainerd Lakes area offers hundreds of miles of scenic trails and routes for hiking and biking so be sure to get out and enjoy the weather and of course the area is hosting the 23 annual Tour of the lakes bicycle ride this weekend so there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy the lakes area at whatever pace you prefer. I for one plan on spending time on one or more of our many great lakes chasing walleye and panfish and will be sure to check out the 2012 Fishing Challenge on Gull Lake to support the absolutely wonderful Teen Challenge organization. Before you head out don’t forget to check out our Brainerd fishing reports.

This weekend looks to be a great kickoff to summer and our Brainerd Hotels are here to provide you great convenience and comfort with centralized access to the lakes area. Don’t forget to visit our website at for Brainerd lodging deals, bird reports, full Brainerd events calendar and more. Have fun and be safe!
