Summer is gone and fall is here which enhances a great variety of activities here in the Brainerd Lakes Area. here is a short list of activities that draw families and groups to our area each year.

The Brainerd Lakes are was the preferred destination for many summer travelers right up to and through Labor Day weekend. Now as the kids get back to school many families settle in for the fall and winter. For others fall is a great time to visit the Brainerd and Baxter area. With great events, beautiful fall colors, and a wide array of activities close to a variety of lodging options it is easy to see why we #lovebrainerd in the fall. Here are just a few of the great reasons to visit the Brainerd Lakes area this fall.

Fall Fishing
Brainerd Minnesota has long been the home of fishing legends and a destination for fishing enthusiasts from around the world. Throughout the year the area offers great multi-species action and in the fall the walleye bite cranks up as the fish prepare for winter. Top lakes include Gull Lake, North Long Lake, and Pelican Lake just a bit farther north. However do not be afraid to take on the smaller area lakes like Round, Hubert, and Edwards just to name a few. Fall Colors
whether on the water or in the woods the changing colors of the leaves make for a great fall color tour. We love taking the boat from Gull Lake to Nisswa Lake through the scenic channels, running the Mississippi River from Lum Park north as far as our gas supply will take us, or riding the Paul Bunyan Trail as far as our legs will take us. For those that like a bit more adventure the Cuyuna Lakes Area just east of Brainerd offers world class mountain biking with an incredibly scenic backdrop and the fall colors make it an experience that you won’t soon forget.

Biking & Mountain Biking
The Brainerd Lakes Area attracts people from around the world for mountain biking and cycling on IMBA certified mountain bike trails, paved cycling trails, and smooth, low traffic, scenic routes. Add the cooler temps and the beautiful fall colors and you have a trip that will be remembered for years to come. Ride the 121 mile long Paul Bunyan Trail, the 8 mile Cuyuna Lakes paved trail, or the many mapped routes in the area. Visit our biking page to download bike trail maps.

Indoor Water parks
With the summer temps cooling down the beaches are a memory however the Brainerd Lakes Area has three of the best Minnesota water parks (indoor) so that the water fun continues throughout the year. With so many Minnesota destinations to choose from our water parks are another reason that the Brainerd area stands out. Bring both friends and family for a weekend filled with activities, events, and fall colors and then wrap up the day with an evening in the water park. Plus, what a great time of year to enjoy the cool evenings from one of our indoor/outdoor hot tubs!

Grouse Hunting
The Brainerd area offers an array of hunting opportunities in the fall from bear to deer however we love Grouse hunting best. This area draws people from across the globe for some of the best grouse and woodcock hunting on the planet. With ample state forest, wildlife management, and county land available to hunters there is plenty of room and plenty of birds for everyone. Birding Tours
Bird watching and bird tours are a great way to get out and enjoy the natural beauty of any are especially when you add in the fall colors, cooler temps, and lack of bugs that the fall season offers. The Brainerd area offers excellent bird watching opportunities and our local bird tour guide is here to help ensure that you get to the right spots at the right time to see the great assortment of birds in the area for the fall migration. Scenic beauty abounds in the Brainerd Lakes Area and what better way to truly enjoy it than from a canoe or Kayak. Check out the Mississippi River, Crow Wing River, Cuyuna Lakes Recreation Area, or Pillsbury State forest. Great fishing, scenic backdrops, abundant wildlife mixed in with the beautiful fall colors makes this a great time of year for this activity.

Fall Events
From racing to fall festivals the end of summer and launch of fall doesn’t mean that the sidewalks have been rolled up. On the contrary the fall season is full of great events including the Nisswa Fall Festival, Drag Racing at BIR and more. Keep an eye on our Brainerd Area events calendar for upcoming events and activities.

Hallowen is just around the corner ant our area is a Halloween destination. In September the mood is set with the opening of area corn mazes. Then in October the area decorates and celebrates the season in style. Be sure to head out to Paul Bunyan Lands haunted corn maze and mansion which draws people from all round for a variety of Halloween activities.

Music and Theater
Music and theater are celebrated in the lakes area throughout the year but fall begins the primary season. Enjoy music and theater at Central Lakes College with groups from around the country including Cavern Beat (beatles Tribute), Presidio Brass, a high-energy quintet from San Diego, and Theater Latte Da of Minneapolis presentation of ‘All is Calm just to name a few. Watch the Visit Brainerd events calendar for music and theater at the Tornstrum Auditorium and the Franklin Arts Center throughout the season as well.

Fall Sports

Go to a game- High Schools’ weekly have soccer and football games throughout the duration of Fall. Cheer on your team and grab a cup of coffee to stay warm while enjoying the game.
