Snowmobile Trails:

Crow Wing County Snowmobile Trails Association Clubs 3/11/22: The trails are holding up for now and most of the clubs are still on their normal grooming schedule.  Some of the open areas are showing wear and tear but in the woods in pretty good. The lakes are getting slushy in the unpacked areas. We are currently looking at temperatures in the mid 40’s next week and that will shut down both the grooming and riding.

Brainerd Snodeos maintain and groom 107 miles of trail from Brainerd to Riverton, to Crow Wing State Park, to Harding and towards Garrison.

INVITE: Sunday March 20th, 10am, Gull Lake Zorbaz Access, lake ride with a strong emphasis on vintage and classic snowmobiles. Plan is to ride for an hour or two on the lake if snow cover permits and take a lunch stop afterwards. Bring your vintage iron and join the fun! No need to be a club member. Typically, 25 and older is vintage and 20-25 is classic. Yes, the major 90’s sleds are vintage!

Merrifield Marathons

3/14/22: Groomed our trails quite possibly for the last time last night. They are still in decent shape, but sure this warm weather coming will not do them any good. It’s been a great riding year. Thanks everyone for a great season! Remember trails close April 1st.

Baxter Snowmobile Club groom weekly on Monday Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Ski Trails:

There are many ski trails in the Brainerd Lakes Area; many of which are groomed Grant-In-Aid funded trails. To “legally” ski any GIA funded trail, cross country/Nordic skiers aged 16 years and older must purchase a MN Ski Pass. A non-pass holder can be sited by any Conservation Officer if caught on these trails without a pass. The Annual and 3-Year passes can be purchased at any ELS (Electronic Licensing Station) station (if they sell fishing licenses, etc., they will sell ski passes) and the Daily can be purchased from a variety of non-ELS providers. The Northland Arboretum is one provider in our area that sells the daily pass.

The Northland Arboretum contains trails for all experience levels. These trails are groomed for classic and skate.

3/15/22: No updated trail report available.

The Pine Beach Ski Trails are both classic and skate and include trails for all abilities.

3/11/22: While the trails are still skiable, we no longer have the ability to groom them with our equipment, they are just to hardpacked for our groomer to cut.  Next week the temperatures will be in the mid 40’s so it looks like our grooming is done for the season.

The French Rapids trails are groomed classic and skate, include steep hills and are for intermediate and advanced skiers.

3/13/22: Trails had a dusting of new snow over old well packed base which made for nice, but not too fast skiing as temperatures got above freezing while we skied. We made the only ski tracks in the new snow, but various critters had made tracks too. Some of the inner trails are not groomed. Probably no more grooming at French Rapids this season.

The Larson Lake Trail system is a good mix of classic and skate trails.  Please note that the interior loops are classic only.

3/15/22: No updated trail report available.

The Wolf Lake Ski Trail is a classic only trail system.

3/15/22: No updated trail report available.

Thank you to the Brainerd Nordic Ski Club, Skinnyski.com and Mark Kavanaugh for their reports.
