Palm Warbler

Brainerd, MN—Birds being observed and or reported within the Brainerd lakes area include.  Nashville Warbler, American Redstart, Tennessee Warbler, Yellow Warbler, Palm Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Northern Flicker, Lincoln’s Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow, Common Nighthawk, Pileated Woodpecker, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Cedar Waxwing, Eastern Bluebird, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, American Goldfinch, House Finch, Brown Thrasher, Gay Catbird, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, American Robin, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Wild Turkey, Great-blue Heron, Trumpeter Swan, Northern Cardinal, Mallard, Canada Goose, Blue-winged Teal, Hooded Merganser, Ring-billed Gull, Caspian Tern, Bald Eagle, Turkey Vulture, Broad-winged Hawk, Cooper’s Hawk, Red-winged Blackbird, Red-eyed Vireo, Eastern Phoebe, Red-tailed Hawk, Mourning Dove, Common Grackle, Common Loon, Belted Kingfisher and Killdeer. It’s a great time to think about bird scaping your yard to help attract more colorful birds!  Ask for native fruiting trees and shrubs to plant around the house or cabin to bring in more birds naturally!

Please also remember many of our Common Loons now have young chicks and watch and listen for the adults giving warning calls when you get too close. This is a dangerous time of the year so be careful and cautious when boating around loons.

Be Well and Be Safe and Enjoy watching the birds from home or out at the many trails found in the area.

  • Crow-wing State Park –  Walking/biking trails, fall colors, songbirds/waterfowl
  • Hawk Ridge (Duluth) Report (best day of the week): September 13, 2022. Total number counted 8,066! A few of the higher numbers recorded on that day include Bald Eagle (73), Sharp-shinned Hawk (585), Broad-winged Hawk (7,196) and (97) American Kestrels!
