Where to Stop for Holiday Shopping in Brainerd, Minnesota

Whether you are looking for a unique gift or something with just a special touch, you will be sure to find it in Brainerd and Baxter. There are dozens of unique stores, boutiques, and gift shops to explore plus many of your favorite national retailers.

Baxter Highway 371 North: This is primarily where you will find retail stores like Wal-Mart, Costco, TJ Maxx, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Fleet Farm, Gander Mountain Outdoors, Target, Kohl’s, and Best Buy. It’s a three-mile stretch of highway that is almost all retail stores, restaurants, service stations, and coffee shops.

Christmas Point: This unique gift shop is three-stories of boutique-style clothing, farm-house décor and furniture, artwork and more. It also has a shoes, jewelry, kitchenware, foodie gift items, and their infamous wild rice.

The Light Depot: Tucked away behind Caribou Coffee and next to Gander Mountain Outdoors, is a gorgeous shop that specializes in lighting and mattresses. However, they also have a wonderful selection of home décor, jewelry and specialty Christmas decorations.

Midtown Brainerd/Washington Street: There are a couple of great gift shops that you will want to put on your list. Simplified Notions is a boutique with vintage and farm-house décor. It is located at the intersection of Washington Street and 4th Street. Brainerd Floral and North Country Floral are also located on Washington Street. Both businesses offer beautiful varieties of floral arrangements and plants, but they are also hidden gems for gift items and home décor. They are definitely worth a stop.

Downtown Brainerd: You will find dozens of independently owned and operated stores and boutiques in Downtown Brainerd. Find an awesome variety of clothes, gift items, hand-crafted items, books, games, furniture and decorations, confections, and food items. The DDBC is also running a “520” campaign encouraging people to take a pledge to spend at least $20 in five locally owned businesses. There is also a punch card available with prizes if you fill out the punch card based on your purchases.

The Shoppes at Northern Pacific Center: Visit the NPC District and you will find unique shops in The Clocktower building. These are pop-up style boutiques featuring farmhouse-style décor, kids clothing, custom-made bags and purses, and barbecue supplies. Also, on property is Loco Espress coffee shop and boutique and Goody’s Gourmet Treats. This is a shopping destination you do not want to miss.

Yarn and Quilt Shops: If you have a crafter, quilter, sewer, knitter or crocheter on your holiday shopping list, you’re in luck! A2Z Yarn has a passion for stitching and offers a clean and cozy place to shop, relax and work on your projects. They also offer classes and supplies for any project. Then be sure to stop into Country Fabrics on South 6th Street in Brainerd. There are three floors of fabrics, textiles, sewing equipment and so much more to explore. Colorz Quilt Shop is your local resource for all things quilting and sewing. They specialize in an eclectic selection of fabrics from some of the most interesting and whimsical designs around. They also help in choosing fabrics and patterns, offer classes to learn new techniques, and they can finish your quilts with all-over longarm quilting designs. Your next locally-owned fabric resource is Cherrywood Hand Dyed Fabric in Baxter, MN. Studio tours are available on Fridays at 11:00 a.m. but otherwise shopping is done online or over the phone. Their base fabric is a high-quality unbleached muslin. Multiple washings in the dyeing process result in a very high thread count. Their unique colors have been described as muted, brushed, broken-in, subtle, comfortable, earthy and rich.

Holiday Shopping Events:

  • November 13: Kringle Market at The Crossing Arts Alliance: The doors open to the public on Friday, November 13th, from 10 am – 5 pm. Enjoy holiday shopping in the Gallery & Gift Shop with an amazing selection of artist-created art and fine craft. The number of people in our space will be limited to 18. Social distancing guidelines will be in effect, and masks will always be required. Kringle Market runs through December 24th, Tues – Fri, 10-5 and Saturdays, 10-2.
  • November 14: The MN Christmas Market at The Brainerd Exchange: The MN Christmas Market is an annual pop-up holiday shopping event that showcases homegrown brands and makers, with a charitable twist. All vendors will donate 7% of sales from the event to a Minnesota charity that fights for kids. The Brainerd Exchange is located at the Northern Pacific Center in Brainerd, Minnesota. Historic buildings and outdoor areas occupy this old railroad property. The property is perfectly set with pieces of railroad history and a country feel tucked right in the corner of town.   • November 14: Holiday Boutique at Design Consign: The Annual Holiday Boutique at Design Consign starts Saturday, November 14th (9a-4p). Holiday décor, unique vintage finds, repurposed items, the world’s best horseradish pickles and more! COVID-19 update: Customers are required to wear a facemask. We will limit the number of customers in the store.
