Paul's Bacon Ride to be Held on Paul Bunyan Trail

The Tastiest Ride in Minnesota will be Held Aug. 28, 2021

Brainerd, MN—Join Paul and Babe—the Big Blue Pig—for a fun ride on the Paul Bunyan State Trail. The fun starts and ends at the Paul Bunyan Trailhead DNR Parking Lot (near the Northland Arboretum) in Baxter/Brainerd, Minnesota. You will ride 45 miles with friends visiting the trail towns of Merrifield, Nisswa and Pequot Lakes with BACON STOPS along the way. Plus there will be a lot of cold Minnesota craft beer and drinks to wash it down. There is a bacon-themed breakfast at the ride start, a bacon-themed lunch in Pequot Lakes, and several other bacon stops along the way. Registration includes the food, drink specials and a custom t-shirt. Packet pick-up is on Friday evening and the ride starts bright and early Saturday morning. Advanced registration online is required.

The trailhead is located on Excelsior Road. From the intersection of State Highway 210 and the State Highway 371 bypass in Baxter, go north one block to Excelsior Road, then go east 3/4 mile to Conservation Drive; the parking lot is on the left.

The Paul Bunyan State Trail is 115 miles long, not including a couple of short on-road connections through the cities of Baxter and Bemidji. Extending all the the way from Crow Wing State Park to Lake Bemidji State Park, it is the longest of Minnesota’s state trails and the longest continuously paved rail-trail in the country. It connects with the 8 mile Heartland State Trail, and at Lake Bemidji State Park it connects to the Blue Ox Trail, an unpaved motorized trail for snowmobiling and off-highway vehicle riding that extends northeast to International Falls.
