10 Things to Do in Brainerd, MN, This Spring
Spring in Central Minnesota is beautiful and complex. The weather is changing and there will be many days where the temperatures soar and the sun lights your way to outdoor adventures, but there will be days when you inside activities are a better option.
- Take a Hike: The Paul Bunyan State Trail is a great place to go hiking; it’s a 120-mile paved rail-trail that winds through forests and past lakes offering beautiful views of the area. The City of Baxter and the City of Brainerd also have dozens of paved trails that wind through scenic areas and near public parks and beaches.
- See a Show: The Gichi-ziibi Center for the Arts and the CLC Performing Arts Community host dozens of concerts, entertaining events, and theater productions each year. We have a great community theater productions too.

- Try a New Restaurant: There are several great restaurants in Brainerd and Baxter that offer an unexpected culinary experience. The Brainerd Lakes Area is a popular destination for golf enthusiasts and many of the courses are ranked among the best in the state. - Explore Exhibits and Museums: The Crow Wing County Historical Society Museum is an interesting look into the history of the community and region. It’s definitely worth your time. - Go Birding: Brainerd is home to several great birding spots such as the Northland Arboretum, Crow Wing State Park, Rotary Riverside Park, and the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway. You can observe and photograph a variety of bird species, including migratory birds that pass through the area during the spring.
- Relax with Retail Therapy: There are several shopping spots in Brainerd and Baxter that have locally owned boutiques, specialty shops, antiques and thrift stores. Make your way to Downtown Brainerd, Westgate Mall, EkoMart, and the Fit Quest Building. Keep an eye out for shops in between those locales, too. - Take a Scenic Drive: Brainerd is surrounded by beautiful countryside and a drive through the rolling hills and forests is a great way to take in the scenery. The Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway is a designated birding route that takes you through prime birding habitats.
