Memorial Day Weekend at BIR Means Muscle Car and Road Racing
May 17, 2019, Brainerd, MN—Brainerd International Raceway is ushering in summer Memorial Day weekend the only way it knows how, with a display of huge horsepower and ridiculous speed.
The 11th Annual Street Car Showdown, May 24-26, is the first major event of the season at BIR. Featuring drag racing, road racing, live music and camping, the Showdown offers fun and affordable family entertainment.
The quarter-mile drag strip will be busy all weekend with the first leg of the three-race Muscle Car Series. Fans will see 300-plus cars and trucks battle in 13 different classes, including seven heads-up classes where speeds will exceed 230 mph. Anyone with a love of American Muscle Cars will be in heaven as most of the cars are show-ready Muscle Cars that can also get down the track in a hurry.
On BIR’s 2.5-mile Competition Road Course, the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) is hosting its annual Harvey West Memorial Day Classic, featuring a variety of sports cars and race cars, including vintage racers, open-wheel cars and much more.
Drag racing starts Friday and Saturday with qualifying sessions, and ends Sunday with elimination rounds. The SCCA is on the road course Saturday and Sunday, with practice and qualifying each day, followed by races.
Saturday’s schedule includes live music by Legacy of Loud at The Wheelie Bar & Grille.
Daily admission is $25; kids 12 and under are free. One ticket gets you in to see both types of racing. Camping is free with the purchase of a multi-day ticket. Parking is also free.
Now in its 51st season, BIR is one of North America’s largest racetracks, featuring a world-class quarter-mile drag strip, two road courses, 300 acres for rustic camping, 164 full-service RV sites and 12 on-site condos.
