Brainerd History Week
Brainerd, MN—This year Brainerd History Week will be held September 20-22 with a variety of events being held at unique points of interest across town. Some of the highlights include a historic marker presentation at the site of the Park Opera House and several stops along the Mississippi River. There’s also a lot happening in one of the community’s favorite historic spaces, The Northern Pacific Center, and tours of that facility will be available. There will be a kick-off party on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at the Brainerd Exchange, the new Northern Pacific Convention Center. Events are free and open to the public.
Friday, September 20
10:00 am—Downtown Brainerd History Walk – Meet at Brainerd Public Library
11:30 am—Historic Marker Presentation – Join in at the Park Opera House location (former Paramount Theater on Front Street, north of Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union).
1:00-5:00 pm—NP Center Tours – 45-minute tour, starting at the Brainerd Exchange on the campus of the Northern Pacific Center.
6:00 pm—Kick off Party – Join in with everyone at the Brainerd Exchange, the new Northern Pacific Convention Center.
Saturday, September 21
10:30-11:30 am—Evergreen Cemetery History Walk – The walk will feature Brainerd’s downtown businessmen and women from the late 1800’s and the early 1900’s. Meet at the 1st Avenue gate.
12:00-2:00 pm—Brainerd Dam Open House – Tour the dam on the Mississippi behind the Brainerd Industrial Center.
12:30 pm—Riverview Brainerd History Walk – Meet near the vacant lot south of the Northstar apartments on East River Road.
Sunday, September 22
10:00 am—Downtown Brainerd History Walk – Meet at Brainerd Public Library.
11:00 am-2:00 pm—NPC Car Show – Experience the old and new at the first annual Northern Pacific Center Car Show.
11:00 am-2:00 pm—NPC Market – Come and enjoy the area’s finest crafters, makers and growers at the NPC Market.
2:30 pm—Riverview Brainerd History Walk – Meet near the vacant lot south of the Northstar apartments on East River Road.
Brainerd History Week is organized by volunteers associated with the Brainerd History Group. The Brainerd History Group was established in 2008 and they’ve been organizing Brainerd History Week since 2014.
